I don’t know a thing about tuxedos. Where do I begin?

Relax. Not many people know a lot about tuxedos. Most people don’t have occasions to wear them more than a few times in their lives. That’s why we’re here. When deciding which tuxedo to select, look at lapel styles, number of buttons, cut of the coat and pocket styles. Pick a style that you like that blends well with the look (ultra formal, formal, daytime formal, fun & festive) you wish to project. Our versatile selection makes it easy to accentuate the bridal and maids’ gowns, as well as the location.

back to questions

What are the different lapel styles of tuxedo coats?

There are three traditional styles that have been around since the beginning of the tuxedo. They may have minor modifications, but they are always in style and help in the selection of the coat that is just right for you. These are: a shawl, a notch, a peak.

back to questions

What makes a tuxedo different from a suit?

Tuxedos add a unique touch of class to any event. With few exceptions, tuxedos must have an accent on the collar and/or lapel of the coat adding to the formal look. The trousers usually have an accent stripe down the outside of the leg. Both are most often done with satin and, to a large extent, help folks determine the different look or fashion statement available only from a tuxedo.

back to questions

If the bridal gown is ivory, what color should the shirts be?

Try to color coordinate the color of the bridal gown and the shirts. This is done to minimize a sharp contrast in pictures between the bride’s gown and the mens' apparel. An ivory gown next to a white shirt may make the gown look yellow or faded.

back to questions

Why wear a tuxedo?

Tuxedos are the proper means to visually express the significance of special occasions in a person’s life. They announce to the world that the event is important to the participants and others. Tuxedos help add that unique accent of personalization to your event. We would be delighted to assist in your planning.

back to questions

Do I have to wear a white/ivory tuxedo to match my bride’s gown?

No. Most often the groom will wear a black or grey tuxedo to complement the rest of his groomsmen and may have his accessories (pocket square, shirt, tie, vest/sash, lapel flower) match the gown and distinguish him as the groom.

back to questions

What about designer-style tuxedos?

We are very proud of the wide selection of hand-picked designer-style tuxedos and accessories we offer. You may select from a wide variety of designs from Oscar de la Renta, Bill Blass, Bracci, Andrew Fezza, Philip Stuart, After Six, Raffinati and many more.

back to questions

What is the smallest size tuxedo you offer?

The smallest rental tuxedo is a full size boy’s 3. This is not a toddler size. Boys’ shirts are sized extra-small to large. They do not have specific sleeve lengths as do men’s shirts. The best fit is determined by the most comfortable neck size.

back to questions

Do you have any special promotions at this time?

We offer many special value programs to our customers. For the current promotion available in your area, please call the store nearest you.

back to questions

What can we do if we have a boy smaller than a size 3 in our wedding?

We do carry a line of children’s tuxedos that may be purchased. These are available in toddler sizes 1, 2, 3 and 4. The outfits include coat, pant, shirt, tie and vest/sash. They are available in tails or tuxedo and cost less than most of our rental styles.

back to questions

How soon should we select our tuxedo style and register for our wedding?

Once you have selected the bridal gown and maids’ dresses you are ready to select the tuxedo. Most couples register their wedding with us four to six months before the wedding date.

back to questions

What is ‘Black Tie Invited?’

You have been asked to wear a tuxedo to the event. Black tie refers to the color of the bow tie to match the black tuxedo and trousers. A formal white shirt with studs and links and black cummerbund/vest complete the look. This is usually required for an evening event and women would wear formal gowns.

back to questions

When do you need all the measurements completed?

That’s simple! The earlier the better. Having style selections finalized and measurements completed four to six weeks before the wedding date is adequate. We recommend ringbearers or other children be measured two to three weeks before the wedding to be sure of any last-minute size adjustments and to eliminate two measurements.

back to questions

What are very formal evening wedding attire and "White Tie" events?

These are the ultimate in formal events. All members of the bridal party wear black full dress (tailcoats) with matching trousers, white pique’ wing collar shirt, vest and white bow tie. The only distinction between members of the party is their boutonnieres.

back to questions

How do we order a tuxedo for members of our party who are out of town?

We will provide you with mail-in measurement cards once you have registered your wedding with us. Simply fill in the wedding date and affair name (bride and groom’s last names) and send them to your out-of-town members. They can go to any formal wear or men’s store and have their measurements taken. Measurements taken professionally will help assure a trouble-free final fitting. After completing the information on the card, they can mail, fax or phone the measurements to the store where you have registered your wedding. When they get in town for your wedding, their tux will be waiting for them to try on with the rest of the party.

back to questions

What is semi-formal evening wedding attire?

Traditionally, all members of the party would wear the same black, navy or grey tuxedo with matching trousers complemented by a white pleated shirt with studs and links. Bow tie and vest/cummerbund complete the look. Lapel flowers may be used to distinguish between members of the party.

back to questions

When do our rental tuxedos need to be returned?

Rental garments are due back to the store the next business day after your wedding. Those living out of town or anyone unable to return their own tuxedo may have another member of the party return it for them. All they have to do is have it back on the hangers as it was when picked up to expedite the return procedure for those bringing it back.

back to questions

What is the dress for very formal daytime weddings?

The entire party may dress in the Cutaway-style coat, contrasting striped or solid grey pants, grey or black vest with ascot or striped “four-in-hand” tie. grey gloves, top hat and cane are optional. A subtle distinction is placing groomsmen and ushers in the Stroller coat.

back to questions

Should I rent or buy my tuxedo?

If you need a traditional tuxedo three or more times a year, it may be more economical for you to purchase a tuxedo. This allows you to have it custom fit and personalize your accessories. It is possible to purchase accessories to go with your tuxedo to create a distinctive look. We offer a wide variety of vests, cummerbunds, pocket squares, ties, shoes, hats, canes and jewelry to make this fun and easy.

back to questions

What if I don’t like any of the combinations above?

That’s fine. The neat thing about wedding formal wear is you can do whatever you like, provided the colors and styles complement the look you are hoping to project. You can create your own personal formal combinations. So relax, have fun and be creative!

back to questions

What should the father of the bride wear?

Since the father of the bride traditionally walks her down the aisle, it’s best to have him dress similar to the groomsmen. Frequently, the father of the bride and groom dress the same; usually in black or neutral accessories to coordinate with both the bride and the mothers. Generally, the groom is wearing white or ivory accessories. This is not a hard and fast rule, but remember, they may be together for pictures.
